Who this policy covers
This policy explains how DocToMD handles personal data when you use our website, conversion tools, paid checkout, and support channels. DocToMD is responsible for the processing described in this policy. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
Files you upload
Uploaded files are processed to generate Markdown output. Temporary processing files are removed after conversion or expiry of the processing job. Do not upload password-protected, confidential, regulated, or highly sensitive files unless you are comfortable processing them through this service.
Markdown to PDF
Editing and previewing Markdown happen in your browser. When you select Download PDF, the Markdown and your selected PDF layout settings are sent to DocToMD only to render the PDF. The source Markdown and generated PDF are stored in a protected temporary job area, are available only to the device that created the job, and are removed after completion or job expiry. They are not placed in analytics events or permanent conversion history.
URL conversion
If you use URL conversion, the public URL you submit may be sent to a reader or extraction service so the page can be converted into Markdown. Depending on the selected conversion path, a third-party extraction, OCR, or AI service may process the submitted material. Do not submit private, internal, login-protected, paywalled, DRM-protected, or sensitive URLs.
License keys and usage limits
DocToMD stores limited usage counters to enforce free and paid conversion limits. Free limits use a server-issued signed device token and a one-way hash of the public IP address. Your browser may store the device token and license key in local storage so the service can recognize your usage and activation status. These identifiers are used for abuse prevention and quota enforcement, not to inspect uploaded content.
Checkout and policy acceptance
Polar processes checkout, payment, billing, and license delivery for paid access. We do not store card or bank details. When you complete a paid checkout, Polar provides the order and required checkout-field result to DocToMD. We store the order identifier, the policy-field result, the policy versions, the provider event identifier, and relevant timestamps to document whether you affirmatively accepted the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Refund Policy. We do not store your raw IP address in this acceptance record.
Analytics
We use Google Tag Manager to operate Google Analytics and use Plausible to understand aggregate traffic, product events, and checkout performance. These services do not inspect uploaded file contents. Where consent is required by applicable law for non-essential analytics storage or access, we will request it separately; accepting the purchase policies is not analytics or marketing consent.
Service providers and international transfers
We use service providers to operate the service, including infrastructure and conversion tooling, analytics providers, and Polar for payment and licensing. Providers may process data in countries other than yours. We use providers and transfer mechanisms appropriate to the service and applicable law.
Retention and your choices
We keep temporary conversion material only for the time needed to process and deliver it. We retain usage, licensing, payment, and policy-acceptance records only as long as needed for service operation, fraud prevention, disputes, accounting, or legal obligations. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of personal data we hold by emailing [email protected]. Some records may need to be retained where the law requires it.
