Convert readable PDF text into editable Markdown
This converter is for PDFs that already contain selectable text. It extracts useful document structure such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and simple tables, then turns that content into Markdown you can edit or reuse.
PDF is a page format, while Markdown is a writing format. The goal is readable structure, not a pixel-perfect copy of the original page. Scanned PDFs, screenshots, and image-only files need OCR first and belong in the dedicated Scanned PDF to Markdown workflow.
PDF to MD workflow
- Upload the PDF. This text mode expects selectable text; image-only and scanned PDFs must use the dedicated OCR workflow.
- DocToMD extracts text, headings when detectable, lists, links, and simple table structure into a Markdown preview.
- Review sections that came from columns, scans, tables, or footnotes, then copy the Markdown or download an .md file.

- Free users can convert PDFs up to 3 pages; licensed users up to 99 pages
- Two-column layouts may require cleanup
- Scanned PDFs depend on OCR quality
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before upload
When this PDF converter works best
Use it for text-based research papers, manuals, reports, documentation exports, and notes where the PDF already contains readable text. This is the right workflow when you want Markdown content, not a recreated print layout.
Licensed users can batch upload up to 10 files per request, with each file counted against the daily file allowance. If a PDF exceeds the page allowance, the interface can create a shortened copy containing the allowed first pages after explicit confirmation.
Expect extra cleanup for two-column papers, complex tables, forms, headers and footers, or PDFs designed mainly for print layout. For low-resolution scans and image-only PDFs, use Scanned PDF to Markdown instead.
Choose the right PDF converter
